WWDA has submitted a detailed response to the NDIS Supports consultation, emphasising the importance of co-design in determining what supports will be available under the NDIS. This submission is accompanied by separate submissions on specific supports, including menstrual products and sexuality supports.
We extend our gratitude to the members of our community who shared their invaluable insights with us.
We look forward to working with the Government to ensure that the definition of NDIS Supports meets the needs of our community, so that we can create a more inclusive and equitable NDIS for all.
Key Recommendations from WWDA:
- Co-design the new NDIS Supports definition with people with disabilities and their representative organisations.
- Create a temporary rule and transitional approach to NDIS Supports that does not impose new limitations.
- Ensure a rights-based approach that aligns with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
- Adopt an approach to NDIS Supports that is responsive to the needs of women, girls and gender-diverse people with disabilities consistent with Article 6 of the CRPD.
- Develop a disability-led training package for frontline staff to understand the diverse needs of people with disabilities and apply the definition of NDIS Supports flexibly.
- Establish strong oversight mechanisms to ensure that staff accurately and consistently apply the new rules.
