In 2021 Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA) received funding for the first time from the Australian Federal Government’s Office for Women (OFW) Women’s Leadership and Development program to represent women, feminine identifying and non-binary people with disability as a National Women’s Alliance.
As a new Alliance, WWDA is establishing a Policy Advisory Group (PAG), made up of three organisational representatives, who will represent state and cohort-based organisations and networks of women, feminine identifying and non-binary people with disability; as well as seven individual women, feminine identifying and non-binary people with disability. PAG members will advise on the work WWDA does as a National Women’s Alliance, and ensure our organisation is representative of a wide range of women, feminine identifying and non-binary people with disability across Australia. PAG members will be paid for their work by WWDA.
The PAG shall function as an important vehicle to amplify the voices, insight and knowledge of different cohorts of women, girls, feminine identifying and non-binary people with disability. These include First Nations women with disability, LGBTIQA+ women with disability, women with disability living in poverty, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women with disability, women with disability from refugee and migrant backgrounds, women with disability from rural, regional and remote locations, women with disability with lived experience of institutionalisation, segregation and/or incarceration, women with intellectual or cognitive disability, and young (15-30) women with disability.
While the three organisational representatives will be selected by WWDA in consultation with relevant organisations and networks, we are opening expressions of interest to all WWDA members to fill the seven individual representative positions. We will assess applications based on both the skills and lived experiences we have identified in the WWDA Alliance Policy Advisory Group Terms of Reference.
If you are interested in joining the WWDA Alliance Policy Advisory Group, it is important that you first read about the role of the PAG in the Terms of Reference (TOR):
